7 Steps to a Successful Side Hustle

successful side hustle

Side hustling can change your life. You can make money on the side of your day job that can help you reach your financial goals a little bit more quickly.

You can pay off your student loans, start the business of your dreams on the side, go on a dream vacation, save up money to travel the world, pay off your credit card debt, save up for a home down payment, and more.

It’s all up to you. It’s your time and your money.

The “trick” is to find the way that best suits you, your goals and your business.

At the same time, there are some basics… you know, the fundamentals… that will work all the time; year after year.

The problem is that most people want to skip the fundamentals.  They keep looking for the next “big thing” and as a result leave money… and their dreams of success… on the table.

What is your “why”?

Well for me, the “why” is I have the freedom to manage my own time, work when and how I want, spend time with my family and whatever else I choose to do. That’s what’s important to me.  And time freedom is at the top of my must-have list.  You have to know your “why”. Now figuring that out is beyond the scope of this particular post.

You can find your “why” with this free e-course: Find Your Passion

BUT… if you already know your “why” and are ready to explore this to build a legitimate business (maybe a side hustle?)… more specifically, if you want to do it by leveraging your ideas, knowledge and expertise… then here are some important things to consider.

Below are my 7 Steps to a Successful Side Hustle:

The first thing you need to do is buy the best side hustles for you. This means you should look into your talents and skills set and see how you can make money. Just because one person can make money with a certain side hustle does not mean that it can work for everyone.

This is why you should dive into your own skills and see how you can possibly make money. This makes having a side hustle more enjoyable because you are doing what you want to do in your free time.

For example, if you absolutely hate dogs, then becoming a dog walker sounds like a horrible idea. However, if you love dogs, then becoming a dog walker might be a dream side job for a person.

Have a passion for what you pick.

This should be easy enough.  We’re talking about taking something you’re already good at and building a business around it.  It might be hard to find others interested in what you care so much about, but you’d be surprised at how many weird niches there are in the online world.  Just be prepared to tweak your idea a bit if necessary.

TwoUse your time wisely.

A side hustle means that you will most likely be using a lot of your free time on whatever your side job is. This means that you need to learn how to use your time as wisely as you can.

Create a schedule, eliminate distractions, find out when you work best, and more.

ThreeNetwork like crazy.

A very important part of having side hustle success is that you have clients. It would be very hard to ever gather any clients for your business unless you network. This means networking with a potential client base and also networking with those in your industry. Don’t see everyone as competition, instead think of it as a way to grow your business and improve yourself.

FourSetup one business model… have one mentor… start with one.

Put your head down and dig in… make that a success and then add the new shiny stuff. Don’t get distracted by something new every week.  You’ll look up a year later in the same exact spot you were when you started.  Once you get the fundamental tactics down, run with them.  It won’t be new tactics that’ll cause you to succeed… it’ll be the action and effort you put into actually doing the tactics you already know.

FiveFollow a proven model for success.

Find a mentor… someone who’s successfully done what you’re looking to do.  Do what they tell you to do.  Simple as that.

SixBe patient with the process

Whenever you’re building something significant, it takes time.  Everything has a process.  Be patient.  Lay the right foundation and try to enjoy the process. Just like any local business, an online business takes time to build, market and get traffic, find the right customers… it’s not an overnight process.  No matter how much you think someone is an overnight success, trust… there are some hours of preparation and hard work that you don’t see.  Don’t bail out too soon.  I repeat… be patient.

SevenDon’t forget to enjoy life.

In the end, it’s always important to enjoy your life. You will most likely be spending a decent amount of time working, so getting out and doing other things that you love is very important. This way you can relax, rejuvenate yourself, and more.
