7 Ways to Make Money Online

Many people desire to make money online, and why wouldn’t they? Making money online gives people location-independent work, potential multiple income streams, and more.

Today I will share a few different ways to make money online. The ideas shared here have potential to become not only a side income, but a potential full-time income.

Today I will share a few different ways to make money online. The ideas here have potential to become not only a side income, but full-time income.

I’ll kick off the list with my personal favorite way to make money online.

1) Start a Blog

I’ve been blogging in one capacity or another for over eight years now. I’m well aware of the challenges that bloggers face and have launched a few blogs that “failed.” Through my failures I have learned what it takes to have a successful blog.

Starting a blog is one of the best way to make money online because as a blog owner you have full control over your website. You can pick and choose what to outsource, and you can potentially sell your blog down the road for a lump sum of cash.

There are some negatives to owning a blog, including the never-ending to-do lists and the chance that you will never make a dime. This website didn’t make a dime the first seven months it was on the internet despite there being 5-6 posts published each week and countless “behind the scenes” work on my part. Blogging isn’t easy money, but if you stick with it there is potential to make some consistent (and sizable) side income.

If you’re interested in starting a blog, I suggest reading my post How to Start a Blog The right Way.

2) Freelance Writing

Freelance writing is another great way to make money online. It’s truly a “location independent” source of income and there are literally an unlimited number of topics/subject matter that website owners are looking for writers to write about.

The most difficult part of freelance writing is getting started. Once you establish yourself in a niche and gain your first few freelance gigs it becomes easier to get additional jobs. It also is difficult to charge much money initially, but later on it’s easier to command a higher pay.

3) Qmee

Qmee is a free search-loyalty, cash-reward browser app that can easily be installed on any major browser. Qmee rewards you with actual cash micropayments, for clicking on results you otherwise would click for no reward.

I’ve been using Qmee for the past few months and have made a few dollars from it. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how non-obtrusive it is. If you don’t care about the results they display, they will be gone as soon as you click on one of the results you see in Google, Bing, or whatever search engine you may be using.

4) Give Lessons

Do you have a musical, technical, language, or other skill that you think people would benefit from? Teaching lessons may be the best option for you to make money online. There’s a website I was recently exposed to called Take Lessons. This business lists teachers/tutors/etc. for just about any skill someone may be interested in learning.

While many people default to music lessons, you don’t have to be in the music area to take advantage of this money-making opportunity. I saw a number of Microsoft Excel teachers in my local area listed on the site. I have by far a better understanding of topics like Excel, Finance, and other business/technical areas and I’m happy to see that there is a website that can allow me to be compensated for teaching those skills to others.

If this interests you I’d recommend browsing the Take Lessons website and seeing if this is a viable online income source for you.

5) Sell Tweets & Other Social Media Updates

I’ve made hundreds of dollars over the past few years selling Twitter status updates through a company called IZEA. IZEA is essentially a marketplace that matches companies/advertisers with social media users. This can include Twitter status updates, Facebook status updates, Instagram photos, and a number of other social networks.

IZEA is a great way to make money online because it monetizes things that you already do: use social networks. If you are spending hours on social media each week you might as well get paid for it, right?

6) Sell things on Etsy

Do you like to make crafts in your spare time? Do you have ideas for things that you can make that other people will buy? Etsy may be a great way for you to make money online.

At first glance Etsy may seem like a tough way to make money. After all, everything has to be handmade.

If you price items right, though, you can make a decent amount of money per-hour. Even better if you can make a “batch” of things all at once, such as pillows, jewelry, or something else.

7) Enter Giveaways

There are hundreds – if not thousands – of online giveaways every single week. They can range in value of just a few dollars all the way up to hundreds of thousands of dollars (ever heard of HGTV’s Dream Home?). I’ve personally won a free trip, and many smaller giveaways.

What most people don’t think about when it comes to giveaways is the fact that most giveaway wins can be converted to cash. Just a couple months ago I won an iPad Air. I don’t care for Apple products, so I sold it to a friend for $300. Another example is a $400 lawn mower I won. The day after we got it from UPS I brought it to Home Depot and received $400 in store credit.
